I’m Lewis, and this is DIY Machines. The channel where I show you step-by-step how to build your own awesome projects. Today I’m making some large neon effect LED wall signs and I wanted to share with you how you can easily build your own design with inbuilt wifi and Alexa control.
This project is similar to my surprisingly popular video showing how to make portable and dimmable desktop neon signs.. Now, several people wanted to know how to make these much larger signs which can be very costly to buy pre-made so I’ll show you how I built these three backed with a false living wall backdrop, coffee beans and astro turf.
As mentioned, the signs can be controlled using Alexa and Philips Hue, allowing you easily turn it on, off or to any desired brightness. This is thanks to WLED running on the ESP8266 here on the reverse.
The entire system runs at 5v, and as sometimes it’s easier or more appropriate to control your lights with a physical control instead of having to use your voice or find your phone - I’ve included a discreet dimmer and power control at the bottom of the frame.
Please 'like' the model on Printables. It really helps me out. Thank you.

Discord server for this project: (A great place for questions and advice).
There is a comments section at the end of this page where you can also engage with other makers. However I do find the Discord community more active. :)
I created a custom PCB (see the adjacent image) which you can order from PCBway or my Etsy store, to help make the assembly of the electronics much easier.
However if you wanted to connect your own circuit the diagram below shows you how everything is connected in my design.
